Annual Reminder: Memorial Day is in one week

Every veteran can visually display support on Memorial Day for those
who sacrificed all by wearing a service or war ribbon on your collar
or lapel to remind everyone who sees your ribbon to remember the
contributions and sacrifices veterans have made since the birth of our
Nation. The only forgotten war or veteran is the one that we stop
reminding people about.

Below are the Memorial Day links. Forward this email to other vets...

I had one ancestor who fought for the colonies in the French and
Indian Wars. He may have been the British colonel who was portrayed in
the film and the book entitled " The Last of the Mohicans." Another
was a Major in the Colonial Virginia Militia in the early 17th
Century. Many of my ancestors fought for the patriot cause during the
American Revolution. One, Captain Robert Paine, was a physician, who
led a company of infantry at the Battle of Kings Mountain which was a
patriot victory. My father, First Lieutenant Thomas Mitchell Shaw,
served with the U.S. Army Infantry in the European Theatre during W.
W. II. His two brothers also served with the U.S. Army during W.W. II.
One was a U.S. Army Air Force Pilot. I served as an Infantryman with
the U.S. Army in Vietnam. There were lots of veterans in my family. I
am very proud of them.

I was mistaken about Captain Robert Paine in my 5/18/13 Post. Captain Paine, my SAR ancestor, was not present at the Battle of Kings Mountain. However, he did lead a company of militia at the Battle of Guilford Courthouse. As I remember it, one of my relatives incorrectly informed me that Captain Paine was present at the Battle of Kings Mountain.
